Projected #1: Self Portrait
"Framed"
A tripod, a lamp, an iPhone camera. Shooting a self portrait project like this that I have never done before. With the limited tools at hand and limited experience, the very first question that I asked myself was - what can I do?
There are many constraints like this in our lives - it can be the physical isolation from people, the restrictions imposed by the society, the limitations we put on ourselves; or it can be the psychological boundaries, the wall inside your heart. In some sense, we are framed by one or many of these barriers, trying to break the boundaries and escape.
In this project, I explore different types of “frames” using representational and nonrepresentational self portraiture, while implementing various artistic elements to convey the emotions: frames to symbolize the constraints, simplistic images to create the sense of isolation, different lighting techniques for support, as well as the contrast between light and shadow to intensify the mood.
